Formally known as Yorkshire Terriers, Yorkies are a breed of dogs that originated from England way back in the 19th Century. They were Originally Bred as Exterminators 

This might be hard to believe but it is 100% true. In the past, Yorkies were bred to find and kill vermin in various homes. Although they are now bred to be smaller in size and are no longer used for extermination, they still have the festy temperament that made them so effective for this purpose in the 1800s.  
A Yorkie was one of the Earliest Therapy Dogs 

During the second world war, an American soldier discovered an abandoned Yorkie lost in a foxhole. This Yorkie which was later named “smoky” went on to be tagged a war hero and was taken to visit hurt American soldiers in hospitals, therefore, making her one of the first therapy dogs in the country.  
They are small, yet so Brave 

Either Yorkies do not actually know how small they really are, or they simply do not care. They are incredibly loyal to their owners and will defend their territories in the bravest ways whenever they have to. This is in direct contrast with their sizes and is one of our favorite things about them.  

They Have So much Hair but DO NOT SHED AT ALL 

Amazing right? Yorkieshave beautiful hair that just keeps growing longer and longer without shedding. Therefore, they are fully dependent on their owners to keep their hair in the right condition. Their hair can actually grow more than two feet in length and although many owners cut it regularly to keep it short and neat, Yorkies bred as show dogs are usually left with long, dainty hair.
